On August 10, Captain Panda embarked on a new mission to protect China’s national treasure in Ya'an, Sichuan. COSCO SHIPPING will present the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda various special “gifts” — wooden ship-shaped environmental enrichment items for the giant pandas to climb and play on, along with customized shipping containers for daily storage of supplies.

On that day, COSCO SHIPPING Group teamed up with the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda to launch a public welfare initiative featuring “Captain Panda Protects Our Homeland”. Both parties expressed their commitment to taking this opportunity as a starting point to conduct more proactive and in-depth public welfare cooperation in relation to the conservation and study of giant pandas. They will make joint efforts to develop public welfare projects for giant panda conservation in a systematic manner, to formulate a blueprint for protecting the national treasures, and contribute to China’s biodiversity conservation and ecological civilization development.

All the gifts provided by COSCO SHIPPING departed from Shanghai and traveled across mountains to finally arrive at the home of panda cubs. The biggest gifts are customized containers, which will be placed in the three bases at the center. While some general cargo containers will be used as staff rest areas and warehouses, a batch of refrigerated containers will be used to store bamboo, bamboo shoots and other staple foods for the pandas. It is noteworthy that the ship-shaped environmental enrichment items were designed and made with reference to the world's leading and latest 24,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel containership. With the support of ship design software, professional shipbuilding engineers completed the 3D model. Then, they used CNC machine tools and laser cutting equipment to carry out precision processing, ensuring the accurate dimensions of each component.
