On 13 January 2026, COSCO SHIPPING Holdings Co., Ltd. (“COSCO SHIPPING Holdings” or the “Company”, SSE: 601919; HKEx: 1919) issued a voluntary announcement in relation to the construction of twelve 18,000 TEU containerships.

According to the announcement, the shipbuilding order was entered into between a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Holdings and Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd.

The construction of these twelve 18,000 TEU containerships is aimed at enhancing COSCO SHIPPING Holdings’ fleet capacity, creating a balanced global network layout, and further strengthening its market leadership. They are scheduled to be delivered between 2028 and 2029 and are planned to be deployed on major east-west trunk routes, thereby further strengthening the Company's core competence in the traditional trunk routes.

COSCO SHIPPING Holdings proactively responded to global customers’ green and low-carbon initiatives by ordering the construction of these vessels equipped with green fuel technology (LNG dual-fuel engines). This is the Company’s new efforts to drive the green, low-carbon and intelligent development of container shipping industry, and to promote the development of clean fuel fleets. By diversifying into new energy applications and further deepening the use of green fuels and related technologies, the Companyensures balanced and flexible development of its green fleet.

As the obsolete vessels are gradually replaced with these new vessels, the Company’s fleet structure will be optimized. And the increase in average container space per vessel will effectively reduce the per-unit cost and increase the economies of scale.

In the future, COSCO SHIPPING Holdings will adopt a phased, diversified and regionally differentiated strategy to promote the construction of green fleet, hence contributing its efforts to promote the sustainable development of shipping industry.
